Are Safelists a viable advertising option?

Someone asked me these questions, recently, regarding safelists.

Quote:
Do you think the safelist kind of attracting traffic is worthy of your time and effort?
And...

I've never received such heavy loads of messages in my entire life, as when I attempted safelists. So, what do you think about that?
To be completely honest with you, I've not yet used safelists, yet, as a method of marketing, but I plan to very soon.

One of my mentors suggested to me that I use safelists, but only after I have read some materials about their proper use.

He suggests that you utilize free email services. Set up one account for admin emails and one for junk mail. The junk mail will fill up fast so you'll need to go in to empty them daily.

When setting up safelists, they will send a test email to both addresses. You will need to click on these links from the email message to verify the email accounts are real. Once that's done you can start mailing. Many of these you can email to daily. If your headline is good you will get traffic.

A lot of these you can set up for free and because of that, you get a lot of new internet marketers using them. If you are promoting a product that is useful for the new guy to reach their internet marketing goals, you should get good results. In fact, I hear that many of the "guru" pay to have someone post to safelists for them. Do you think they would pay to do that if it didn't work?
