I got 5 tips:

1) Most people on Twitter follow back people who follow them, but not all. You can start following random people but not too much because you might be detected by Twitter as Spam.

2) Link up your Twitter to your blogs by using some Twitter widgets.

3) I see some people promoting their Twitter pages via forums as signature, because this is not just one time clicks... I mean, if people follow their updates, they could get more when they tweet.

4) If you've got an email list, tell your list to follow you on Twitter for more special and fast updates.

5) Reply to people. By doing this, your @name will appear on other people's Twitter who follow the one you are talking with. With this, they might just follow you.

Some good tips. I notice that a lot of people follow me for a few days, and then when I don't follow them back, they stop following me. I think it's kind of funny that they would behave in that way. You should follow people you want to follow, not try to raise your count.

What I'm working on now is finding some good gadgets that are visually appealing for my site. Do you have any favorites you use?

6. Understand Your Follower’s Timezone

7. Understand Your Follower Preference
Try your best to understand the preference of your followers such as their specific interest and what is the specific topics they’d like to read and etc. You can do the research by asking your followers directly. Another way is to monitor closely what are your readers reading, retweeting and talking about. These will greatly help you to create content more specific for your followers.

8. Content Is King
Same as normal website and blog, content is always king. You should try to keep your tweet as simple, short, straight to the point as possible. With so many tweets people receive a minute or a day, they don’t have much time to spent on your lengthy tweets.

A few tools that make twitter easier...

tweetbeep. It notifies you of tweets with the keywords and locations you are interested in. Once you have the info, you can then follow them.

tweetlater. Sets up a system for multiple accounts where you can automatically follow those who follow you. Not a big deal when the numbers are small but there have been days when 100 people follow me in a day... so hard to get to each one personally.

hootesuite is a multifunctional application for twitter and while I put off using it I now appreciate having it.

Last on my list... tweetdeck. It has multiple columns to track a variety ... puts everything in one dashboard right on your computer.

The other tips here... very good!

I have found that there is a 5 to 6 minute window in twitter when using links.... I normally send out 5 to 6 Tweets a day with an average of 13 to 15 clicks on the URL's within the 5 to 6 minute window....

I am considering tweetlater to automate the process and to do 20 per day....
