Actually Twitter has been the next big thing for a while now.

I personally do not use it as I should. I do know that one of my accounts does give me a return, but it's really on auto pilot. I only feed it with the rss feed from my store, hands off. I can't say how much it does for me, but I do know it has brought me more sales and new customers. I keep saying I need to track it, but not sure how and never seem to find the time to figure it out.

Now, the twitter guru's will tell you, and I think they are absolutely correct, is that it's like anything else, you need to build a relationship with your followers. I don't think it's really much different than most anything else, like a blog for instance.

I think it is also similar to proper email marketing, give them some usable content, rather than just trying to sell them all the time.

As I said, I am no twitter expert, just my two cents on the subject.

I will say though, right now it's pretty easy to build up a following, I've gotten two accounts to over 3k each pretty easily. Course if it brings you traffic and sales is another thing, depends on what you do with it. It is one of my top referrers for traffic as well, so seems to be doing something

Yeah this is definately possible. But you need to get those followers listening to what you say first. Unfortunatley Twitter is not like email marketing. If you speak, it does not mean that they will listen...

But if you build that relationship well enough, you can get loads of clicks from targeted traffic.

Actually I think it is very similar to e-mail marketing, you need to create a relationship with both mediums for people to listen or even open your e-mails. Both are trying to communicate with people.

Could you not start by giving sometihng away so they have to keep coming back to your site for more information? A bit like a story, split into sections?
Once they see ytou have something to give, I am sure they will follow - I am going to try this!

Twitter may be no-follow, but I've seen many of my twitter urls show up in the search engines I do not totally believe no-follow cut's off the juice totally, just my opinion.

Just had one of my accounts go over 4k followers. Course many people have tons more. Though I don't use automation or any software and I don't just follow any one. It's not that hard to get a following if you work at it.

How exactly can you use twitter to generate traffic to your site? I'm not sure how that site works or better yet, how you can use it to work for you to generate traffic? Please help.

The quickest way is to simply have a link to your site in your profile, should have a link there anyways. Many people looking to follow you, or check you out to see if they want to follow you back, will often check out the site in your profile.

How much traffic you get from it will depend on how many people you follow and how many people follow you back. It's also a snowball effect, the larger you grow the more people follow you.

The best way to get the most traffic out of Twitter is to post or tweet on a regular basis with usable information. Just like a blog, the quality draws in readers. I'll admit, I don't use my accounts in the best way. One account I hardly post, and the other one is auto posted from a feed.

Like I've said, I've had customers tell me they found me on twitter or follow me, so it's working one way or the other
