Twitter the wrong way...
It amazes me how many people take the time setting up Twitter account, yet they don't take the few extra minutes to do it right.
If your new to Twitter or have been wanting to give it a try, here's a quick, what you should do: Write a Bio! If you want people to follow you, you need to tell them something about you or what your gig is. Put a URL in your profile. This one really shocks me. Twitter allows you to add a url to your website, why not use it? Yet I see many that do not. In reality, it's a red flag to me, makes me wonder why they have not entered a web site address. Post some Enteries! If you have no updates on your account, why would people want to follow you? You have nothing worth following. If some one wants me to follow them, and they missed all of the above, I am probably going to get suspicious. Makes me wonder what your up to. Though it might not be intentional, this looks like a scammer in the process. Pretending to be low key nobody, then when the following is there, they spam the heck out of them. Want to go one step further... Put up a picture of yourself. Nothing does your branding better than people seeing your real face. You could also use your real name. Many of my customers have said they saw me or my name other places, it works.

Thanks so much for this post, It is what i needed so as to weak me up as far as twitter is concerned.
I think i will revisit my twitter page now and work on it more. I had put up a twitter page some time back, but did not really have time to promote it. This kind of act as a reminder to me. The truth is that each time i add a twit on my twitter, i get many people following me. I guess i should post more twits so as to get more to follow me.

Ya, that seems to be the case, the more you post, the more followers you get, even if your not posting totally quality content.
I have two accounts right now, one I rarely post to and it doesn't grow much. The other account I only have my store feed hooked up to it, so it just posts when a new product is added, and that twitter account grows faster. Well, I should say there can be other factors as to why it grows, but that's another post

One thing I forgot to mention. If you really want people to follow you, do NOT set your twitter account to protected. I have yet to follow anyone that has their content protected, least not on purpose.

Ron, thanks for a to-the-point guide.
I will also have to add that I have seen people go as far as customizing the appearance(design) of their twitter page. I don't know if you have seen this but some people take a big 1600x1200 picture and edit it in photoshop to make twitter look like it has a left column. In that column they put additional information about them-selves. Btw Ron, what advice do you have for a new twitter page for a company. Do you suggest doing something else or at least something different that isn't that pretty straight-forward?

Yes, one thing I did not mention, like you said, adding a custom background.
Yep, it's an easy as uploading a picture, size and requirements listed on the settings/background page, think you have the size right. I made a custom background for mine: RonKillian (RonKillian) on Twitter like your talking. Though it's kinda rough. Not sure what your asking about a company page. I'd make one that matches the company website as close as possible with all the info about the company and of course url.
