I think most people know that social bookmarking is an easy and effective way to:

1) Get indexed fast by the search engines
2) Get some traffic
3) Build backlinks to your site

Well, one of my favorite free tools for doing this is Social bookmarking service. Fast tagging and posting to all major social websites - SocialMarker.com (no affiliation). This is a great site where you can do all of your social bookmarking - even selecting whether you want to use DoFollow or not sites. I use it regularly for deeplinking to individual posts/pages, it only takes a few minutes to bookmark on multiple sites.

Isn't social bookmarking supposed to be manual? (I thought social bookmarking had to be about communities, adding friends, asking them to vote for your site, etc)

However I don't know that much about this field. I will give socialmaker a try

Social bookmarking has to be manual just link any other thing on the internet, but then there are hundreds of site to submit to, and it is quite a process.

Why not use a tool if it dose the work for you. Besides with the site he mentions above, you still have to do most of the work. Cant really call it a tool.

Socialmarker.com is a manual process of adding site, network of friends, and a lot more. It's just that with socialmarker.com you can work on each site at a time and the fast way.

Yes social marker is a good tool but you have to register and add all your registration details before you can post, taking me 2 hours.

Well as someone that has done well over 330,000 bookmarks in the last 2 months I can tell you many people do not use many sites tools and they are leaving money on the table by not doing so..

Yes there are social bookmarking sites that have web 2.0 features and many just use a slow bulky service such as socialmarker and do not take the time to be apart of the communities. By being involved in these communities you will greatly increase you backlink building, pr with google, and exposure...

I actually maintain many many accounts and those with web 2.0 features I be involved in.. I also submit my bookmarking accounts to RSS Directories and Ping my profiles.

There is way more to bookmarking then just tagging your own website...

You should also check out ping.fm, which lets you update your "status" at multiple sites simultaneously. Similar to social bookmarking, although it's not exactly the same thing.
