Well you can promote your website in different ways.

One is being PPC and the most popular is google adwords...But many marketers fails to make money...

The second one and free method is to write articles and submit does to article directories like ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com

The third one is SEO, search engine optimization, you take your website at the first page of google or other se's by some optimization strategies...In my business I do most SEO and article marketing...and a little adwords, not much....

If you're after free advertising here's my suggestion:

1. Forums - You can promote your website through your signature, however it's important that you do really contribute with something valuable. One-line posts or replies will not drive traffic to your website, as they are regarded as spam by most forum administrators and members.

2. Yahoo answers - It's a great way to send traffic to your website but again you must be very careful. Do not blatantly put a link to your website on each of your answers. There is a "source box" you can use and you can also add a link to your name/signature and profile.

3. Craigslist - Sign up with a few different email addresses. This will allow you to post several ads at the same time thus boosting your results.

4. JV Giveaway events - these have become very popular lately. Join a few and give away a report with your affiliate links and - of course - a link to your website.

I have some ideas for legally advertising the site without violating the rules and regulations.

1.Join the forums and social groups so that u can also participate in group discussions.It doesn't mean that u can advertise your product or services.
But it will be helpful for u to make aware about your product with your good and quality comments/posts.

2.Other thing is that u can join some social networks like linkedIn ,Konnects, BizToo, Jumpup,etc.

3.U can give press release so as to announce your product and services .PR should not be more then 1 or 2 times in a month.But if U have launched some new product or services then u can give PR.

4.Your closer once in business field can also promote your site and services.

5. The other major thing is constant SE submission and Directory submission.Because search engines give preference to the site submitted to directories and search engine.

I think that if your site content is good then it will definitely attract the visitors constantly.

Simple, Just put all your advertising links in your signature it is O.K. to do at all popular forums. If it is not you don't want to post there. If your links in forum are restricted to one or two only then list your primary site and a blog site that lists the rest of your sites. That's all there is to it. Oh Yea it does help to read the rules.

What I have found is that when you have very little or no money to spend on advertising is to put your fingers to the keyboard and start pumping out some articles that are relevant to what you are selling. Of course, you will have to have a landing page because most article directories won't allow affiliate links in your articles. So, you just put a link that goes to your landing page and from there you provide a link to your sales page.

This is the fastest way to advertise for free, but you have to put time into creating several articles and have them all linking to your landing page. Remember, though, to make each article unique and different while using the same keywords. Some article sites do not like duplicates.

As above I like Articles as way to bring traffic, Its almost like anything you do to promote your business is considered spamming these days, but hey if your promoting and giving away good free info in your articles and posting to a hundred different sites as a pose to hundred articles to the one site, you wont get any complaints I'm sure. When it comes to Article Marketing its free but it takes a bit longer, although when you hit the right note you'll have traffic hitting your site believing in just about everything you say, I don't think getting traffic is the hard part to be honest, but having the goods to cash in! All in All give Articles a try.
