Promoting Affiliate Products Vs. Your Own Products
What do internet business owners prefer, promoting affiliate programs or having your own products?
I posed this question because in past discussions I've heard the comment made several times that people prefer promoting affiliate because payouts can be more than what you might get for a product of your own and of course you avoid the hassle of having to create a product yourself. If you really think about that, having a business built solely on promoting affiliate products isn't really the best solution for making money online. So let's think about that some more. If you promote an affiliate product, the only one promoting it for you, is you. In other words the sales you make come only from the promotions that you do yourself. Having your own product, on the other hand, means you can also have others promote it as well. Having your own product and creating an affiliate program for your products allows you to virtually get thousands of other people to promote your product, putting more profits in your pocket. Now don't get me wrong, I love affiliate marketing and I am an avid affiliate marketer. It will always be part of my business model, but having your own product and getting others to promote for you is exponentially a better deal. Let's look at an example: Let's say you promote an affiliate product that earns you $27 for every sale. Without a lot of advertising, even with little to no advertising, you could conceivably make around $50-$200 a week; some will make less; some may make more. It will vary depending on your promotional skills. Now, if you have your own product such as an informational product or guide and you sell it for $27 and you also offer an affiliate program that pays affiliates 50% per sale, you will make $13.50 per sale. This is less money for you, but... if you have 100 affiliates, lets say and they make just 1 sale a week that's $1350.00 a week that you take in. That's a lot better than $200 a week. Even if you had 50 affiliates, that's still $675.00 a week. That's not even counting the sales you will make yourself where you will get the full $27 per sale. Promoting affiliate products will always be part of my internet business. I love getting behind good products that will help people and bring value to their lives and I've had great success with the products I promote, however when it comes to significantly increasing earnings potential it makes good business sense to develop your own quality products. Keep in mind, you don't have to sell expensive products, you could simply write small reports and sell on a smaller scale. The important lesson here is that in addition to your own promotional efforts, you are getting others to sell for you, and on the grand scale of things, using the power of others to promote for you will bring you many more profits. Having your own product can be tiresome bu you can have long-term buyers for free provided that you have lots of affiliates under your sleeve that gives free traffic to your site that captures emails of the visitors. This comes into writing your quality articles and promotions. And ultimately havein your product well-made like videos, audios, software and pdfs. For me, plunging to both can also be good. |

Agree with everyone - it would be exciting to be able to launch a product of your own, absolutely, but it's very expensive and not always a viable option for everyone. Merchants by and large are arleady established with fat bank accounts and are happy to pay what really amounts to a small share of their actual profits so everyone wins.
I did make my own ebooks and do make sales on them here and there but not enough to pay the mortgage, shoot, not even close! lol.. |

In my opinion, a two-pronged approach to the topic mentioned certainly helps into understanding deeper about internet marketing.
However, being a total newbie, I chose to have my own product/services first and learn as many ways as I can to market it. I believe that knowing how to market is the most vital knowledge an internet marketer must master as his/her own skill set. Upon mastering such a valuable skill, one can then, apply it to other affiliate's products as well, using the same strategy (wash, rinse and repeat). Yet again, it's something for everyone to ponder and up to the invidual's preference. |

I would say you can earn more creating your own product, however it must be a quality product and that takes time and money.
I advise you to start promoting affiliate products and when you are succesful and profitable doing that, you can think about creating your own product. |

Promoting your own products is by far better than promoting affiliate products. Affiliates are just sales agents. But products owners are Executive staff.

If you have a good product, that is you are really sure it is good enough, why not go ahead with it yourself. Afterall, those whose products you promote are just human like you.

your own product will obviously pay you the highest margin as you do not need to share it with anybody else. so for me the question of promoting my own versus affiliate products clearly results in promoting my own if i had any. promoting both may result in canibalising margins on your own product but that also depends on whether they are substitutes or comlementary products. i doubt that as an affiliate you can earn higher margins on promoting affiliate products that on your own unless it is either scam or viewed as a premium product versus your own.
