6 Steps for Growing Your List and Making Money with Teleseminars
6 Steps for Growing Your List and Making Money With Teleseminars
by James Palmer Teleseminars. If you’ve spent any time learning how to build a successful business or life for yourself, you’ve probably listened to at least a dozen of these great resources, either live on the phone or the next day on your mp3 player while driving (my personal method of choice). But did you ever stop to think that you could—and should—be hosting a few of these bad boys yourself? I’m here to tell you, of course you can! I’ve done it in the past, and I’m doing it again, starting this month. So why should you get started in teleseminars? Convenience. Why get all dressed up and burn a tank of gas schlepping yourself to some business function to put on a presentation, when you can give the same content from the confort of your own home in your PJs? Low Cost. Hosting a teleseminar is relatively inexpensive. There are even conference call companies that will host and record your call for free! All you need is a bridge line, a landing page, and an email address, and you’re in business! Promote Your Products and Services. Teleseminars are a great way to not only provide value with good, actionable content, but they can also be used to promote your products and services, whether it be an e-book or a six week coaching program. Builds Trust. Teleseminars allow your target audience to get to know, like and trust you by hearing your voice and getting their questions answered directly. Provides Reusable Content. Once the teleseminar is done, it’s just the beginning of what you can do with it. Record the call and offer it as a free bonus or as part of a paid product. Or have it transcribed and turned into an e-book or report. The sky’s the limit! Builds Your List. Teleseminars are tremendous list-builders, if positioned correctly (I’m going to get to that in a minute). So, how do we create a teleseminar that grows our list and makes us money? I’m so glad you asked! Here are the steps that I’m using: Step One: Survey Your Target Market. Before you begin holding teleseminars, you need to know what kind of teleseminar your target market even wants. If not, you’ll spend a lot of time and effort on a call that only gets two sign ups. So here’s what you should do: Survey your list. You can create free surveys using a wonderful tool called Survey Monkey (SurveyMonkey.com - Powerful tool for creating web surveys. Online survey software made easy!) to find out what your audience wants. What kind of questions should you ask? To learn what types of teleseminars they might be interested in, think of all the topics you are interested in or know something about and ask them which of these they want to learn more about. Ask them what their spending habits are when it comes to buying information products on these subjects, including how much they are willing to pay for good information. Now, send this survey to your list. For maximum response, offer a free report or e-book that they will receive after filling out the survey. Step Two: Create a Vision. Depending on your audience’s response, you then come up with teleseminar ideas and a format that will work for them. For myself, I knew I wanted to build my list. I also knew that I wanted to help my target audience become more successful in their chosen field. I decided that the best way to do both was to invite guest experts in those subject areas to be on the calls with me. That’s right, you don’t have to be the only expert. You can also interview someone else. In fact, if you have a really small list and your main goal is to grow that list, this is the tactic I recommend. Step Three: Invite an Expert I made a short list of people I could invite. They had to be well-known experts in their field, be an expert on a specific subtopic, and have a product that would benefit my target market. I then wrote a boilerplate email and sent it via email and my Facebook account to several of these experts. This email tells them who I am and that they have a specific product that would benefit my list, and asks them if they would like to by my guest on a free teleseminar. I offer to create all the marketing for the event, and all I ask from them is that they show up for the call, give good, non-salesy content, and give me 50% of the sales of their product that are made as a result of the call (hey, if you’re gonna do it, you might as well make some money, right?). I have yet to encounter anyone who had a problem with a 50-50 split, and it’s the standard JV deal among Internet marketing folks. The key here is to make it as easy as pie for them to say yes. Step Four: Get a Bridge Line and Put Up a Sign Up Page. There are many call services you can use. Some are free, some you must pay for. A good free one is www.FreeConferenceCall.com; a good pay service is Domain Name Registration, E-mail, Web Hosting. Once you’ve got this set up, you can create a landing page with a sign up page. Create a list for the call in your autoresponder, and write a follow up message that sends the call-in details to those who signed up. Step Five: Get the Word Out. Let everyone on your list know about the call and give them a link to your sign up page. Post it in your Twitter feed and your Facebook profile. You can also announce your teleseminars for free at a great site called SeminarAnnouncer.Com. Your personal announcer. Step Six: Host and record the call. Recording is key. A lot of people won’t be able to attend, and you’ll get more sign ups if you offer everyone a recording of the call. Plus, you and your guest will have something they can use later on as a bonus or add on. Step Seven: Follow Up. As soon as the recording is ready, send an email with the download link to your list of people who signed up for the call Step Six: Don’t Get Discouraged. Let’s face it, you’re probably not going to make a thousand dollars with your first teleseminar, especially if you’ve never done one before. But that’s OK. Treat it as a learning experience. On my first teleseminar, I made less than a hundred bucks and had trouble getting the call recording to download, but I didn’t let that stop me. Study what went right, what, if anything, went wrong, and have a plan in place to deal with those issues next time around. Every teleseminar you do will get better and better, and you’ll grow your list and hopefully make a little more money each time. Your points a surely worth thinking about, though i don't do seminars as for now! I have noticed that all the gurus in internet marketing: make money online, forex, sports, real estate etc are really using web seminars as a very powerful advertising platform.
I tried attending one last month just by curiosity, and i was really disappointed because every single word that came out of their mouth was promotional, not educational.
