Just wondering, what's the benefit of a signature file and what is 'pm me' means?

rightly said. Your sig file is a way to own your presence online. People visit the forums everyday and ask questions your sig is meant for letting people know what your involved in.

Your signature area is were you can advertise by posting a link or two or more depending on what the forum rules are. Most of us post to create back links to our advertised signature which in turn moves or site up in the search engine ratings. PM means personal message to be sent within this forum.

See my signature file below. Why did I put it there? Two reasons, I would like you to visit my websites thereby giving me traffic. Perhaps if you visit my website then like it you might buy something or sign up to my newsletter. Finally the second reason is of course to provide links back links to my website which will which will help me in the search engines.

jkrene6....just remember there are no dumb questions especially when you're are wanting to venture into the world of internet marketing. There is a distinct possibility that you might get a dumb answer occasionally. This forum is the place to ask those questions since we've all started from scratch and have been where you are.

By the way the answers above are true in every sense. Use your signature in forums to show who you are and what you have.

just like when sign your letter. Some people will know who wrote the letter by seeing the signature. It's a trademark.

Your signature file can include any or all of the following:

1. Your website address (URL)
2. Product/products you are giving away for free
3. A product you are selling (you created) or a product you are promoting as an (affiliate)

Why do you want a signature file?

1. Drive Traffic to your site
2. Opt-ins (List Building)
3. Create links back to your site, which in turn will boost your search engine rankings, especially if the site from where the link originated from has a higher Alexa rating.(Yahoo for example has an Alexa ranking of #2)

(Go to Alexa.com - download their toolbar - then look at the bottom of your screen to see the websites ranking number.)

You like to get links back to your site from websites that are ranked 100,000 or less (the lower the number the better.) Google will see that this higher rated site made a direct link to your site. This helps tremendously to get your site ranked higher - faster - if the links are generated from higher ranking sites.

Although, sometimes this is not possible, so the more link 'love' you can create - the better.

PM me = Private Message or Personal Message

When someone says, "PM me" about how to do something, they are requesting that you send them a private/personal message.
