Blogs vs websites: what's the difference?

Hi

Please help a very confused person...

* What is the difference between a "real" website and a blog?
* How would I know when to use which one? What info goes on the website and what on the blog?
* If an existing website could have a facility for comments to be made after the articles, would it then qualify as a blog?
* Could this existing website then be submitted to the directories that list updated blogs?

Thanks for any and all info that will help clarify this!

A website can be run using a blogging software. In fact many companies are doing this because it's much easier to manage and because of the search engine friendliness of blogs.

I have posted several articles about blogs on my blog that you may find helpful. To answer your specific questions:

A blog can be a real web site. You can create pages, just like a normal web site, as well as log blog entries.

Comments are just one of the elements that make a blog. In general blogs are search engine friendly, that have, or allow incorporation of, most web 2.0 features and allow general interaction with your readers.

Hope this helps!

A Blog Is A Type Of Website

My understanding is pretty much the same as above. A blog is a special type of website which can do pretty much everything a website can do and with a lot of new easy to plug in features that regular websites may not be set up to work with as easily.

blog

well, a blog can have people interact each other, while a normal website you don't. A blog allows you update your information more frequently and easily. while for normal website, unless you're going to use some embedded online editors, you basically can't do it. That is you have to write some HTML (webpage design code). search engine loves blog since they are updated more frequently, that is fresh content.

A blog you can share you ideas, company visions to your customers, also you
can ask your customers to participate in ideas on product creation. In short,
this help your business because your customers to participate.

that about it hopes that help

Smile Blog versus website

Hi Charlie,

Blogs are a critical element to internet marketing success, and your websites - if they are the correct types - are also invaluable and part of the complete wealth making strategy, aka - integrated marketing.

There are 4 main types of websites, and you should have 3 for sure:

1. Branding - this is a site often for yourself and/or your company. This is where most companies spend thousands of dollars, and continue to pour money into it, or haven't updated it in years. This is where you send general contacts you meet.

An example of this is my Corporate Site: InnerSurf International Home
(these are pretty dull, just information based)

2. Sales Letter - this is a one page, often long form site, that highlights the benefits of one product or service. Not many companies have this type of site, but it can be effective when used in conjunction with an email based marketing campaign, a visitor already knows you, and/or it is the go to page after a Landing Page.

It is focused and it's purpose is to get the sale. Throughout this page you should ask for the 'buy' about 12-15 times.

3. Blog - This is a diary/journal like site that keeps everyone up-to-date with what you are doing, and/or developments with your products or services. You can post articles here, and keep in touch with your prospects and customers. An example of this is: Internet Marketing with "The Marketing Makeover Maestro"

4. Landing Page - This is the most important page your company will ever have, and only 1% of the Internet population has it. And those are the companies that are making millions, and doing very little work for it. An example of this is: 31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles Internet Marketing A Direct Path to Internet Profits and Breakthrough Website Secrets

The strategy is landing page to sales page with posting to your blog daily so that it gets good Google SEO and page rankings. This has the opt-in that appears from your landing page as a backup, but all traffic, Adwords campaigns and articles, you should send everyone to your landing page.

Blog is a critical element for relationship building and Google search rankings, and is a part of, but not a replacement for landing and sales pages.

Blog And Website

The key differences between a blog and a web site is that a blog’s main function is being a web log or online diary. As the term "online diary" suggests, this is where a blogger can generate a lot of interesting personal comment and intimate details and information about a particular niche subject or topic that they have chosen to cover. Blogs are quick and easy to set up. Blogs are a less expensive way of advertising your business to the online community.
example:A person has a blog. That blog talks to people.

A web site on the other hand is the official address and location of a web-based business. Just the place you would expect to find ecommerce tools and landing pages where customers can make a purchase online. Blogs and websites can work hand in hand with one another.
example:A company has a website. That website talks to customers.

Thumbs up Suggestions .........

As u have asked about difference between blog and website i have some good differentiating points.

1.In website, pages are static and they rarely changed. In blogs pages are static but it get frequently changed.

2.If u are writing comments or post on others blog ,there are certain limitations. But In your website u can have 100 of pages without any restriction.

3.U can have your own site blog.Which should be linked with your site.

4.Other thing is that when u submit your site ,your linked blog is also get submitted automatically.

I dont know much about this either. isn't it more expensive to host a blog website? or to get it on your website?

A good little strategy

Here is what I do to make use of the power of blogs....

I put a wordpress (the only way to fly) blog on the root of my domain, this allows my root to be the most SEO friendly. I then use sub domains as any other pages that I want to have on my domain, for example product reviews or sales pages.

The great thing about this is that I can funnell my blog traffic into my sub domains, and I get much more traffic and higher rankings in the SEs easier because of the blog factor.

Also, the PR is passed on from the blog down to any subdomains, Not bad hey!!
