e-commerce website vs. starting a blog

Hello guys,

I have been looking around at several ideas for starting an e-commerce website vs. starting a blog and running some type of advertisement on it. I know this is a very general question, but which one do you think will require more time commitment to get going? It seems to be a blog will require less time and money but that might mean the return will be less.

Any thoughts?

HI Meredith, I think that starting an e-commerce site is a much better option. For having good products and opreting your own online shop you need to take care of some security issues like you need to purchase an SSL certificate to make the details secure which are submitted by the user. Having a good e-commerce site is advantageous and can lead to high profits if you maintain that well.

If you are concentrating on one particular niche then why not do both?

Start off with a blog. Post content once per day or whatever frequency you like but make sure it's regular so you get into a nice pattern. Each post doesn't have to be long.

Explain your niche and what products or services you (going to) have on offer. As you do this, you are giving Google and other search engines food and will start to get ranked.

Put an email opt-in form in your blog and/or create a squeeze page. Set up your autoresponder to give away something for free like a report or a 7 day course. Build your list!

The above is the easiest thing you can be doing and it wont take long to do. Because of this, it is very feasible to create your product or ecommerce site at the same time.

Set some time to drive traffic to your blog, even if your ecommerce site is not ready yet. Again, build your list!

Set yourself goals, don't put too much pressure on yourself to get rich tomorrow. Treat it as a proper business.
