You've got a website, and it is not doing as well as you'd hoped.

You started it a couple days ago, a couple weeks ago, a couple
months ago, or even a couple years ago-and your traffic stats are
looking like a flat line on a graph.

You thought that having a website would be an "if I build it, they
will come" situation, like in the movie Field Of Dreams where
people just showed up out of nowhere. But driving traffic to your
newborn website is harder than you thought it would be.

I think we've all been there . We've all experienced the joy of
"birthing" a new website, marveling at the beautiful design and
reading over and over our eloquent, clever, warm and insightful
content. When we launch a new website it's a labor of love, and we
have to nurture the site along so that it can move from crawling,
to walking, and finally to running at a full on sprint!

But how? When you're staring at your website not knowing what in
the world to do to get the ignition started, where do you begin?

That is a good name for it. Maybe I should have named my Report that. lol

Generating traffic to ones website is a mystery for the new marketer but it is definitely something that must be learned or there is NO chance of success.

I wrote a report recently (my sig) dedicated to that one important topic.

Another way to generate traffic is by joining a gift Giveaway Event where you register, upload a gift for people to freely download in exchange for their signature. This MAY or MAY NOT get traffic to your site but it WILL create a mailing list for you and that is as good as money in the bank. There is actually one of these events happening this Friday. Sorry, Guess I don't get the post. Just telling everyone what they already know. Why not tell every one how to solve the puzzle or get started?

Framing it as a mystery keeps people asking and guessing. Framing it as a proven strategy only gets them to buy or listen once, and then they go off and do it. In books, mysteries are perennial sellers because people always want to know more. If you write a novel, unless it is a literary force, people will move on.

Saying its a puzzle indicates that there is one way to solve the puzzle and make you rich. I don't know, I think it's combination of things that get perople to your website, hard work, computer knowledge, social skills, etc... I don't think there's any one answer to the riddle, puzzle, what ever you want to call it. We should call it the
"Traffic Nightmare." LoL :-)

Not sure I get what the 'puzzle' is

In todays internet marketing world, you have to build your field of dreams visitor by visitor. Using things like good SEO and social networking and all the other techniques that you'll find listed on any marketing forum

And the traffic techniques do work... so again I must be missing the point because i really do not see what the puzzle is.

I think the problem is newbies get so much information thrown at them that they could get information paralysis. Does it really matter where one starts as long as we start somewhere

A very good thread. I'm just waiting for some pointers in the right direction! I need traffic!! What 3 tips cold you give a newbie to get at least 10-20 visitors a week!! I have 0 visitors from 3 weeks of starting... Very depressing.
