It's In The List?!?

We all know that saying, " It's in the list". What does that mean?

Well, it means that literally, your fortune is waiting IN YOUR MAILING LIST.

If you don't have a mailing list, then you are hooped. Well, maybe not totally,
but you won't be generating as much as if you had one.

There are a few ways to get your list going

One is to make a membership site. People sign up for your membership site
and automatically they are on your list.

Another is to sell something to someone and they have to give you their
name and email address before they get it.

But the best way is to give them something of value for free. Then they are
much more willing to give you their first name and email address because
they are getting something.

So how do you get in front of a lot of people to give them your product?
By joining one of the FREE Gift Giveaway Events like the one in my signature.

You simply register, upload something you can give for free to someone and
when they register their name and email address, they get your freebie. You
get their name and viola! Your list is born.

I highly recommend that everyone do this at least one time to get your list
going. Otherwise you are leaving a load of money on the table by not having
a list to sell future products to.

Good post

One thing you need to be careful of though. When you sell something, some people might be upset if you make them give up some info before getting what they paid for. Also, processors like Paypal also frown on the tactic. I'm not saying it's a totally bad idea, just some things to remember

A couple of other ideas:

After some one signs up for your list, ask them to refer their friends.

After some one signs up for your list, offer another product free is they refer so many friends.

Always ask your subscribers to refer friends.

I would be upset too! If you want their optin, do it before they pay. If you do it AFTER they pay, be sure to at least give them the option of opting in for their purchase AND have a direct link to the download below that. That way you have covered your bases.

This is one big one Ron! This has the potential of making your optin VIRAL! That is if you are giving away something that is of big value. You don't see enough of this happening these days but hopefully people start giving more than they receive. That way it becomes a win-win situation for sure.

Of course a way to get them on your list, after they pay, like you mentioned - it should be optional, is to tell them they will get updates, they will get gifts, they will get tips, trick, content, or set up a squeeze page with a free gift. Just a couple thoughts.

The only problem with subscribers referring friends, and I think the reason you don't see it to often, is that it's kind of border line as you could get spam complaints. Or some one could abuse your referrer form. Just my take on it.

BTW: The link to the giveaway you have in your signature, does not go to a contributors page Least didn't look like it to me.

Actually we forgot the most important aspect of list building, least in my opinion, and that is testing. Your squeeze page should be in constant testing mode.

This is exactly what I do.

Everyone who buys something from me have to submit their name and email addresses to get it. So I am building a list of buyers rather than freebie seekers.

Also I can give them free updates plus sell to them over and over again.

I agree. There might me some people out there but i think it's just the minority. Furthermore, you can put something like "We hate spammers and won't sell your list to someone else." and also they can have the option to unsubscribe.

Great post the money is definitely in the list!

And yes the key to being succesful online is to provide great content for free, this builds trust with your readers and ensures that when you do recommend a product your list actually purchase it
