SEO Basics

Most of the time we concentrate on the advanced methods of doing things but forgetting the very basics. SEO is one of such things that we forget the basics, most of the times. Here is a quick reminder!

There are 3 HTML tags every page should have at the top of the page just below the tag. They are:

A- The Meta Title tag,
B- The Meta Description tag,
C- The Meta keyword tag,

It would be good optimization if you make sure your keywords appear at least once in each of these tags

Getting this 3 points right will put you way ahead of your competitor

Truthfully, I think that the 'meta keyword' tag is rarely considered by Google anymore, the main fact being that when they first came up with the search engine, the meta keyword held a very high rank in a website's search ranking.

But what happened was that people started to abuse this tag, putting words which were unrelated to their website content just to get traffic.

But the other two tags I agree are definately important. Although they may not factor in your placement, it does factor in to what a browser may read. So placing your keyword there will have it highlighted in bold and if the description is attractive enough, it may draw that click and bring the visitor in to your site.

Very important point. Sometimes ı check through my rather large site and find that some of the recently added pages are missing one of these tags.

Make sure all pages have a good title and description tag at least...

Also check that all titles are different

i think contents are the most important aspect of SEO. Contents is the king. Good keyword-rich content forms the basis of optimizing a website.

I believe an quality content is one having:
1. Optimized keywords
2. Originality
3. Informative

the metatags are still valid and effective, but the keywords need to be true to the site ie related keywords and not stuffed with nonsense

For onsite SEO, I always include the following: all the meta tags (Title, description, keywords), H1 and H2 tags, alt image tags, name all images with keywords in file name, internal linking with anchor text filled with keywords, all add-ons with keywords (widgets, plugins, stuff on the sidebar, etc.)
