A question about psychology of marketing

Today’s customers are very smart (they have always been like that, but today they are more than ever…) Is there any method, book, or way that shows how to deal with customers, with their inner desires, how to make them wanting a certain product/service? I would appreciate any direction … We have so much things to do in our daily schedules and we forget one of the most important thing (if not the most important): our customer… We take courses and buy ebooks and scripts, about list building techniques, how to build a website, how to manage sales, blog feeders, article re-writers, how to deal with our busy schedules, time management, self-improvement, … etc, etc, but hardly deal with customers, their desires, behaviors, issues, how can we reach them and make them wanting what we sell?

Any idea?

Thanks

Alba

Think your asking two questions, How to find the right customers and how to sell them?

Finding them comes down to research, getting into their mindset, figuring out why they would want, or better, why they would need your product. You wold also want to figure out how they would look for the solution to their problem, to gain say the proper keywords.

Once you know how to find them, you just need to tell them how your product or service is going to solve their problem. How it's going to benefit them.

Is that what you mean?

Though, as I read your post again, seems your talking more about, how to sell them. Some of the best books for that would be copywriting books. Many of them go into what makes them buy, why they need something, ect. Joe Sugarman books are quite good what that. He goes through many ways to sell people, their hot buttons and so on.

I am not expert, just my thoughts.

You need to uderstand your niche and how your customers think. General psychlogoy you get from books but it is best to talk and contact your visitors and get to know them over time. Insert feedback gathering points into your website and newsletters to collect their views...

Ask them questions and siscuss their opinions

Well you could spend a whole college tuition on marketing to the customer, LoL Look, just pretend your the customer and say to yourself, would I buy this, would I even be remotely interested in this. Its also not a bad idea to get a friend or loved one to look at what your selling and see if they would like to buy it. Theres no one perfect way of selling something. Just give the customer what they want, and they'll buy it. Try not to over think it.

If there is a book with the explanations of how to deal with customers and
how to sell them products it would be very easy for us.

Unfortunately there is no certain method, I always learned that when it comes to general marketing or internet marketing. The best thing to do is research on their "behaviour". What are their interests and how can you approach this customer? For example: approach them by a personal email or just an advertisement at Google? It's very difficult to say but I can say keep up with the new developments and technologies which can be an important factor of influence for reaching your customer.

This book is interesting!

I had a book recommended to me by a fellow internet marketer by a guy called Robert Cialdini I think. It makes for interesting reading. I will check this out when I get home tonight and get the title too.

The Psychology of Influence

Hi
The Book is called Influence -
The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini published by Collins. I got it on Amazon and it is a fascinating insight into our behaviour and what drives and motivates us.

IM is just like off line....you have to connect to your prospects and develop a rapport......

You might try doing a Google search for books about "what makes customers buy" there are some free ones that can help.....
