Don't ever let this happen to you!

Hi All,

I wanted to share a huge thing that happened to me.

I own a mobile wallpapers and mobile games website which has pretty good unique visitors per day (from 200 - 800 a day).

In the last month i noticed my website dropped to 100 visits a day, i thought maybe google is doing changes and everything will be fine soon, also i was busy in the holidays and did not have time to dig in it deeply.

Anyway i got a message from one of the website users telling me they can not use the service of getting the mobile content into their mobile phone.

I usually do regular checks but on some services which looks working 100% to me i don't do checks.

The problem was actually in a sub domain that did not load at all, which is the main gateway to users to receive files.

After i fixed the problem (which caused by unknown error on domain forwarding) Bam! my website stats got back to normal as before!

What can you learn from this?
Never take things as granted, do regular checks of ALL your services at least once a week.

without that website user my stats could look like this for months and i could loose visitors, but now everything is back to normal .

It really pays to have an over-all check of the site regularly...taking things for granted could have some worrisome outcome affecting especially traffic...

Cool

I know exactly what you mean. I have had sites out there too and if you don't keep a close eye on them for errors it really can hurt you. I have had people let me know if something was wrong. I must be lucking.

Yea you are right, never take things for granted. Especially on the internet where there are many people ready to hack in to your system and destroy just anything you have.

It is actually good that you have fixed the problem and every thin is fine now.

Yeah stuff like this can be a killer.

I once had a site fail to autorenew because of the hosting company,
and I lost about a week of sales before I realised. It was a real pain,
and the hosts offered me something silly like $60 compensation.

Not very cool.

Yep, check your site across all platforms and services that you intend it to be available on. Things change fast, and you can be dropped fast if you don't have the right setup. This is why I like CMS platforms, as they usually develop a module or plugin to allow the site to be viewable across the numerous viewing platforms.

Talking Thanks for the Advice

I should check all the settings on the new site I'm getting ready to launch this week to prevent stuff like that from happening.
