how effective is ppc? issit a really good way to advertise or just something that is overrated? does having it gives ones company an advantage or one should just have it to keep up?

PPC and effectiveness

From my experience it is very difficult to find a good keyword that has not already pumped up the price beyond the reach of the small guy. Your keyword has really got to be valid to what your site is actually offering otherwise you'll get the clicks but then people will just move on, unless you've really got what they want, to keep them there. I have done better with long tailed keywords (many words) but this has to be researched and thought out very carefully.

When it comes to PPC the two big players are Google & Yahoo. Since you’re just jumping into PPC, pick just one of these two & focus on that until you really learn what you’re doing. I strongly suggest Google first. Once you master that, scale your campaigns by transferring them over to Yahoo too.

Now what are your keywords? Targeting the right keywords will make or break your campaign. A common mistake when attempting PPC is building a deep keyword list rather than going wide. For instance if you’re targeting “bodybuilding” & you target “Bodybuilding programs,” “Bodybuilding workouts,” “Bodybuilding females,” etc (pretty much all keywords w/your main seed keyword in it) that’s going deep. And it’s not nearly as effective as if you cast a wide net targeting words related to your seed keyword such as “how to build muscle,” “how to get huge,” “weight training programs,” etc. You’ve got to consider how your target audience may search for you.

Going wide like this takes more time when building a PPC campaign but a big enough net will help you figure out which of those related terms your market is responding to.

Figure that out & then do the long tell keywords related to the ones that are working for you.

PPC output depends on the campaign handling techniques that work best for your product/services. Specific traffic should be targeted and placed accordingly to achieve success.

I guess it boils down to this ppc reduced if you can find a specific phrase related to your place to say 0.10 click look for hidden gold mines. I can not see how you can not get a good return on investment if your key phrase meets these criteria. And just looking to build a list.
