I'm not naive I'm not looking for a panacea to give a million visits for free...

BUT...

We have quite healthy natural traffic, and have an SEO person doing some work to boost our Google rankings and get natural rankings for some longer-tail keywords...

We also have links from a range of sites, do some email marketing etc. Nothing fancy but the usual stuff.

I'm interested in sugegstions of things I could do - in say 1/2 day a week every week - that could help to slowly increase this traffic further at little or no cost...

Any and all suggestions welcome!

I use Squidoo as the base of all the products I sell on line. Then I make sure I rss feed and ping my lenses and write post blogs about my lenses. Then I rss feed the blog posts as well.

This makes a great difference on how long it will take Google and other search engines to index your work and therefore give you some organic search results.

We have a few thousand pages already indexed (not sure why not all 10,000 though, any suggestions welcome), so not worried about speed of indexing, but need to get on to page 1 for all sorts of job-related searches...

Have you tried using Twitter to help connect with people?

It's a great min-blog to let people know what you're up to. You can install the Tweet my blog plugin on your blog to connect the two.

I second the RSS suggestions, not just quicker indexing, but more back links. It really comes down to proper SEO and back links, back links, back links. Did I say Back links?

Sounds like you in a very competitive market, probably reason your not seeing page one. Obviously, the more competitive the market, the more it's going to take to get on the first page. Could just be a matter of time.

This is true but I think that you should still be looking to get back links from a number of other sources as well. With the use of blogs, twitter, forums and articles combined you will create enough back links from enough places to mount a serious SE page 1 attempt.
