Link Cloaking Help
I have my own web hosting and domain service, but I am having trouble doing php redirect...
I don't want to use free services like urlfreeze or tinyurl... I have plans for the website and such but for some reason I cannot seem to cloak my link right. I have researched google like crazy, watched videos on youtube, and I still am doing something wrong. I can't tell if its a setting I need to change in my cpanel or if its something I am doing wrong. I will let you all know what I am doing exactly. Ok so on my desktop I made a folder and named it "recommends" I opened up notepad and copied: <?php header('Location: http://www.redirect-to-this-site.com...ge.html'); ?> Of course I changed the link to the clickbank hoplink... I save it as the name of what I was promoting so "profitlance.php" I saved it in the recommends folder. Then I accessed my website through core ftp and uploaded my reccomend folder to my "Public_html" folder I go to update it then type in my website/recommends/profitlance.php and nothing loads... I don't know what I am doing wrong, I am really confused. All I want to do is set up my link cloaking so it doesn't show my affiliate id in the web browser bar, I want it to look professional/nice. Can someone please help me? I really am lost as to what it is I am doing wrong :/ Any help/advice would be appreciated greatly! Thanks! |

A simple redirect, just redirects to a url you specify. You could also do a redirect in cpanel, but again, that just redirects to the url you choose.
What your looking to do is going to require some programing, such as with php and you'll need to do apache mod re-write for the urls, that is, if you use apache. If you want to track, then it's more programming, or scripting. I use power link generator, it's not free, but ready to go, no programming or messing with code, ect. Plus it tracks links, counts and more. And does just what your looking for, site.com/recommends/ I've used some free ones and never got them to work. Just my thoughts

One of the best ways I have found to cloak links is via one of my blogs. I have a few blogs setup for different niches. For each cloaked link I want to use whether it's in an ebook, forum, classified ad or anywhere else I use a plugin called Link Cloaking Plugin.
You can get it here: ø Link Cloaking Plugin for WordPress | W-Shadow.com ø Then I use that cloaked link for every affiliate link I use no matter where it is. It works like a champ and looks like a regular link. Another benefit is that is when people hover over your link (as we know they all do) it simply shows an elegant link to your website and they feel more secure in clicking it. Rick P.S. Must have a WordPress Blog for this plugin |

(you have probably already seen it all?) Lets try something corny and fun then. Blabberize.com! - Got a picture? Blabberize it! Thanks! Mike

This is one of the methods that I use. As well as hiding your affiliate link, it also has the advantage that each of your affiliate links is contained within a small file. If the affiliate program disappears (which seems to happen regularly) then you can just replace the contents of the file with the new affiliate link.
Instructions: (1) Optional - you may want to create a directory on your site called "recommends" or something like that. You don't have to, but this keeps all your affiliate links together. (2) Open a text file on your computer using notepad or another text editor (3) Copy and paste the following code into the file: Code: ________________________________________ <?php header("Location:http://www.youraffiliatelink.com"); exit(); ?> ________________________________________ Replace youraffiliatelink.com with your affiliate link (4) Save the file and give the file a ".php" extension. For example if you are promoting the submityourarticle affiliate program you may call the file submityourarticle.php or something. The important thing is the .php (5) Upload that file to your website. if you have created a directory as described in (1) above, then make sure you upload it to that directory Graham |
