is this possible? calculation script
i'm trying to find or figure out if its even possible to do this, what i'm looking for is a script that calculates distance between a set address and the address input by a user, then calculates a delivery cost based on variables of milage and the amount of product.

Answer: yes, it's definitely possible. Question: are you doing the deliveries yourself, or via a service? 1] If the deliveries are via UPS/Fedex/USPS, then why not plug in to one of their API's to get the delivery rates automatically? That seems much more reliable than doing the calculation yourself. 2] If you want to do the calculation independently, I think you'll need to get a zip code database of latitudes. There are many such databases available. Do a google search for "zip code radius" (many services market the databases toward companies that want to add a "find stores near you" function to their websites). Usually the database providers will include the php/asp scripts for calculating the distance/radius figures. If the deliveries are local, then the Google API is probably the best bet, as Aryex already mentioned. Hope that helps. |
