I have one job site which focus on "ESL job", my goal is to rank my site in google first page, but it isn't working well.

There is a site which is our comepatitor, when I google "Teach english in Korea", their site is 1 or 2 nd ranked. I don't think they have lots of visitors. Meta tages influnce the rank in google? I am curious! I guess the site has more links from other sites which affect on their google rank.

Meta tags are not a big factor, though they can't hurt and should be used, every little bit helps in my opinion. they probably do have more link backs, but can't say unless I knew the site to check.

You need to do some keyword research and start writing articles/posts that contain those keywords. Try the google keyword tool and type in 'learn english in korea' and see what it comes out with:

Meta tags matters but not much depend on that. If you have more baclinks than others it means that your website should come there?

There are lot of factors you need to have like related backlinks not unrelated links if you have unrelated links then those links are no use instead they will effect to your website.

And your website content should be unique and should explain your business.

Yes it helps if your back links are related, but thats' total BS that unrelated back links do not help. Guess my sites much get ranked by magic.

Almost any back link is good, except from bad or banned sites. They do not have to be related.

of cause meta tags influence the rankings!!! especially the title tag. The keyword tag is not important in Google's eyes but it is good to put it maybe for other search engines.

It is quite easy for you to check the number of backlinks that are pointing to that site. The better thing you would have done is maybe give us the url of your competitor and yours as well, so we can better diagnose the reason why they are better ranked than you. And i bet you there must be a good reason. In fact the most probable reason will be that they have more backlinks than you. Page rank too!

You should do the following research. check the number their incoming links on yahoo. use this link:url-of-the-site.com it will give you an approximation if the number of links that they have. Then also check your backlinks links.

From that point you will know how much work to put in so as to out rank them. It is not always easy tough, but you have to give it some time and lots of efforts, especially if you are dealing with competitive keywords

I would recommend you to study the backlinks of your competitors site, that way you can clearly make out their marketing strategy and plan yours in a proper and competitive way. Quality backlinks from important and relevant sources plays a very vital role in SERP.

ESL Jobs is very competative in serps with all the top runners having ESL in their titles and URLs. You will either have to do similar to compete or do as the other person has done and pick a less competative keyword phrase and settle for that traffic!.
BTW - my sister in law just came back from Korea after two years teaching english!
