I know that the biggest key to improving SE results is backlinks.

But what are the best links and are there any other ways to boost SE results and Google's PR, other than building backlinks.

I have already optimized all my web pages with 1 keyword each and I am getting pretty good traffic 30 to 50 visitors per day from the SE's, but I need a higher placement in the results to really boost my traffic.

Any ideas are welcome.

Backlinks are like votes for your site. Some one else (not you) is saying your site is worth visiting. If no one is recommending your site, with a backlink, why should any one else, such as the search engines, believe your site is worth listing, or worth their users time to visit?

I really don't think you could gain ranks without back links. The only other option, besides going out and getting backlinks is to create outstanding content that people will want to link to. Even then, you still need links from somewhere to be able to find your content in the first place. But if you relying or "hoping" others will link to you, you could be waiting a very long time, if they ever do.

There are ways to build back links that don't really involve going out there and getting them, but it doesn't add up to much and probably won't get your listed any where near the top on the SE results.

Course I am sure there are plenty of other people out there that want the same traffic you want and they are willing to do what it takes, leaving you in the dust.

Sorry but the net can be tough. If you want it, you have to go out and get it, it's not going to come to you. You have to do what is needed to get what you want. Sure you know that.

Concentrate on the anchor text of your backlinks to make sure they reflect the content of your site. Mix em up a bit so Google doesn't penalise you!

You need good links with PR.
The best ones are those from sites that have high PageRank and are anchored with the keyword that you choose.

What do you want to reach from having 30 to 50 visitors a day? That is quite good numbers unless they only visit and your bounce rate is high to tell they are not interested to comeback again.

build quality backlinks from submitting your site to social bookmarking sites, do blog commenting from do follow blogs. just do this everyday and your backlinks will increase and so as your traffic.

There is no easy way in SEO.It all takes time and patience in building backlinks. They have said it, PR will not give you money but being in page 1 of Google will.

Besides backlink, we should update fresh content regularly. It can helps our rank.
