Which is the best 3D design software?

Take a look at Autodesk 3D Max and Softimage. I'm not really into 3D design but such products have been around for years so their latest version must be really good.

3D Studio Max is an acknowledged heavyweight in the 3D design world. It has a large user-base in architectural modeling and virtual walkthroughs, but is also the dominant player in 3D games development. 3D Studio Max is also the only major 3D product.

As far as I know, Pixar use a piece of software called Maya. It's pretty high tech, plus you'll need one heck of a deep pocket to afford it

I used to use Blender 3D, which is opensource (FREE). It's absolutely awesome, you should check it out.
